Monitoring Hypertension Should Be Simple

Monitoring Hypertension Should Be Simple

As a consultant with Obvious, I was a Design Manager at Simple from 2019 to 2021, working alongside Daniel Burka. I led a team of designers and researchers, managing project deliverables, conducted field trips, and trained healthcare workers. In 2020, the Simple App won the IxD Award for "Best in Show." I owned several key projects from ideation to validation and testing. Here are my three main contributions to the program.

  1. The Simple App

Simple helps healthcare workers manage patients with high blood pressure and blood sugar by tracking vitals and medications. This builds a valuable patient record and supports NCD program monitoring. During COVID-19, I integrated telemedicine, enabling nurses to generate reports and stay engaged with the app. I'm most proud of making hypertension care more accessible by decentralizing it to the community level. 1. BP Passport App

An app for patients and caregivers to track blood pressure and blood sugar, with daily medication reminders. During COVID-19, it helped patients record their vitals independently or at pharmacies, ensuring doctors had accurate data for informed treatment decisions.

  1. Training healthcare staff

India faces challenges in using technology in rural hospitals, and doctors have little time for patient counselling. I trained nurses and counsellors on the app, showing them how it cut down their paperwork. To support program at scale we created training videos and presentations.
